As a full-time wedding and elopement photographer, I have had the honor of capturing the biggest weddings to the most intimate. I love each one so much, but intimate weddings just hit differently. The Scully’s Intimate New York Backyard Wedding was such a dream. From the thoughtful little details to the pure love shown throughout the day, I was so happy to be able to capture this chapter in their love story.
There were so many moments from this beautiful August day that stood out to me looking back through these photos. We began the day with some “getting ready” photos, but they weren’t your average ones. The groom elected to go for a little bike ride in the morning and wanted me to focus on photographing his love. I was over the moon that these two were truly doing what they wanted to do on their day.
The Scully’s pup was present as the bride got ready for the first look with her groom. Who wouldn’t want her pup with her on her wedding day?! As she walked down her parents’ staircase to her future, I snapped a quick shot of her stepping down the stairs. Months after the wedding, The Scullys and I were out for dinner together. They told me that this photo of her stepping down the stairs turned out to be one their favorite ones from the day because it represented all the excitement and anticipation leading up to that special moment. To this day, I still think about her kind words; storytelling is such a special part of being a photographer.
Other sweet moments that still stand out to me about The Scully’s wedding day was how perfect the summer weather was. We enjoyed sunshine almost the entire day, until out of nowhere, the skies opened up and gave way to a downpour right after the ceremony, we made it just in time! It’s good luck though, right!? Everyone was just so happy to be celebrating their love, no one really cared to huddle under the tent for a few moments laughing at the situation.
Now, as if these two memories weren’t enough to convince you that this was the sweetest backyard wedding, this will. The ceremony overlooked the family’s pond. And what do you get when you mix a pond and a wedding full of pups? At least one wet pup. One of the pups ended up launching himself into the pond while chasing a DUCK! 😅 This memory lives in my head rent free.
I am so thankful to be in this profession. And I am SO thankful to have been able to capture this intimate New York backyard wedding. Telling the stories of all of the couples I’ve crossed paths with will forever fill my heart to the brim. Be sure to head over to the blog to catch up on all the latest love stories. As always, I’d love to be friends on Instagram (@michellegodfreyphoto). Your love is rare, wild and true. Let’s create some magic together!
